I am sorry

I have been lost in thought, and heavy in heart. With my best friend gone so far way for a while and the death of my sister in law, I am afraid I am not my self, or at least the self I want to be right now.

I know the plan, and that the Lord is in charge. But distance in any fashion is still distance. I ache for my brother and long to hold my mother, someone who knows me better than I know myself. So I am sorry I have been so distant.

4 Treatments for Fibromyalgia - by Dr Oz

Dr. Oz will see you now! In his first O column, he analyzes the different treatments for fibromyalgia.

Defining Fibromyalgia: Though classified as a disorder of the musculoskeletal system, the condition is now seen as a central nervous system problem. Symptoms include increased sensitivity to pain, achy and stiff joints, fatigue, and specific tender points on the back, chest, arms, and legs. Migraines, sleep disorders, and irritable bowel syndrome are also common complaints. Up to 3 percent of the population may suffer from fibromyalgia, but with no clear cause, the condition is difficult to diagnose.

Western Medicine Approach: A formal diagnosis for fibromyalgia didn't exist until 1990, but now there are three FDA-approved meds to combat the pain. Still, says Nancy Klimas, MD, director of the Allergy and Immunology Clinic at the University of Miami, "there is much more to treatment than a pill." Strategies are needed to improve sleep, stretch and restore symmetry to muscles that have been shortened by spasm, and raise overall conditioning through exercise.

Energy-Based Approach: Practitioners believe the root of fibromyalgia is a disturbance in nerves that blocks energy. The disturbance, says Devi S. Nambudripad, MD, PhD, and a licensed acupuncturist, is caused by sensitivities to substances ranging from pollen to vaccines to chemical agents in fabrics. Anxiety and depression may also play a part. Practitioners use acupuncture to release energy and allergy testing to identify problem substances.

Psychological Approach: "The pain of fibromyalgia is not caused by depression," says Leonard Jason, PhD, professor of psychology at DePaul University, "but depression can deepen a patient's experience of pain." Mental health professionals may play a complementary role in treatment, but it's a vital one. Cognitive behavioral therapy can relieve depression and help patients identify sources of stress that magnify their symptoms.

Nutrition-Based Approach: Fibromyalgia is a systemwide breakdown, says Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, medical director of the nationwide Fibromyalgia & Fatigue Centers. After suffering from the disease in the 1970s, he developed his own protocol; in studies, patients improved by as much as 91 percent. He recommends supplements to help sufferers sleep, balance hormones, boost immunity, and improve nutrition. He also prescribes regular exercise. (Try Dr. Oz's 20-minute workout plan)

My Recommendation: Because Western medicine was slow to accept fibromyalgia, it is behind in its work; this is an area where patients will want to take a serious look at alternative approaches. Energy-based medicine could offer some important advances in treatment over the next decade, but since it has yet to be tested by independent research, I think it's premature to base your therapy solely on this approach. I'm more impressed by Teitelbaum's supplement regimen, and not only because he has tested his theories: I've put patients on this program with very good results. I would add counseling, as it should always be a part of fibromyalgia treatment. If after a couple of months you don't see improvement, talk to your doctor about drug therapy.

Gas?? That would be a good thing to have.

Okay, I am such a dork!! I was driving Alissa’s car up to Salt Lake for our weekly visit. On the way home on the big curve where I215 turns onto I15 South I ran out of gas!!. Right there in the middle of the curve!!
As cars are flying by me within inches, I prayed that no one would hit me. I called the Highway Patrol for help. So there I sat, I opened the door of the car and with a cool breeze and a book I had, I sat and read for about 30 mins. I am truly grateful for "Incident Management" trucks. The gentleman was so kind as I laughed at myself, I thanked him and I was on my way. I am home safe and sound now but I am going to lay down and take a nap. :-)

A "Gift" that is hard to explain... but easy to understand

Happy Birthday Sierra "15"
on Mar 25, 2009
You're are growing into
an amazing person
I Love You.
.
In 1993 we moved to Fairmont, West Virginia from California. Donny was working for Bechtel and working on a project for the FBI. The area was beautiful but the people were not very accepting. The weather always overcast it seemed and not knowing anyone I fell into a very lonely depression. At the time we had four girls with the youngest being very ill (refer to the post Happy "16th" Birthday Katie) we lived on the top of a hill with beautiful views of God's creations and yet the place I found myself was alone beyond understanding. I had a sister come up to me at church and say “You don’t belong here! Don’t be coming here thinking you’re going to change us with your California ideas” Stunned and with tears in my eyes I said “I am a member here”.

The kids seemed to adjust quickly and Donny was busy with work and church callings. Struggling with a sick child and very unhappy I soon found out that I was expecting again #5. Unprepared for such news, I hide it to the best of my ability. (My Dad already thought we had enough kids.) I carry big and out front so hiding it wasn’t going to last too long. I wondered why at that time was I to have another baby.

I knew I had to turn inward, forgetting the chaos of the Ward and world around me. I continue to search to find the help that Katie needed as my body was changing with my expanding waistline. It was soon realized what was happening, as I got bigger it seemed the hearts of those around me softened they were kinder and more loving. We were making lasting friendships, my experiences now different. At first questioning the Lord and yet all along he knew what I needed, what they needed.

Dear Sierra, You were a precious gift to me from our Heavenly Father at a time I needed it more than I realized.

When God Closes a Door, Somewhere He Opens a Window

I know that things happen for a reason; sometimes we do not or can not understand the why of it all. But in time we can see what we needed to learn or what we were being prepared for.
Life is a journey and we are to find the joy along the way. It’s hard to see the big picture when you’re in the middle of the storm, and just when we do not think we can go forward one more day there it is, the window, an answer, an opportunity, a kind word, a loving hand, peace; not as the world gives it, but peace to your soul. So open that window and let the light rush in.

Where Is It????

Okay, you know how you are looking for something and you can “see” it in your mind. But you can’t find it!
You look and look, driving yourself crazy to the point of exhaustion. But you know it is there, this has been going on for days . Grrrrr

From my mother on my birthday

God Knows

When you are tired and discouraged from fruitless efforts…
God knows how hard you have tried.
When you’ve cried so long and your heart is in anguish…
God has counted your tears.
If you feel that your life is on hold and time has passed you by…
God is waiting with you.
When you’re lonely and your friends are too busy for a phone call…
God is by your side.
When you’ve tried everything and don’t know where to turn…
God has a solution.
When nothing makes sense and you are confused or frustrated…
God has the answer.
If suddenly your outlook is brighter and you find rays of hope…
God has whispered to you.
When things are going well and you have much to be thankful for…
God has blessed you.
When something joyful happens and you are filled with awe…
God has smiled upon you.

When you have a purpose to fulfill and a dream to follow…
God has opened your eyes and called you by name.
Remember that wherever you are or whatever you are facing…
GOD KNOWS

Thank you Mom,
I Love you

Let me vent...............

I love my husband, my children (all 9+1 of them), my family and having the gospel in my life. I love to blog, facebook and doing "Our" Family Newsletters. But sometimes it's not all just happy go lucky.

Having a child with mental illness and behavior problems, telling me everyday that they hate me and how stupid I am, can be discouraging. I really can’t “do” anything right for this child.

It’s a daily battle from the morning until I get this child to sleep, which can be as late as 2:00am. Getting this child to school is an all out fight. Even though this child is so bright, talented, and has an amazing testimony. I know it is a battle for them too, with mind, body and spirit.

Is my battle any harder then others? NO, I know many suffer with challenges much harder than mine. My heart and love goes out to you. I guess I am asking for understanding and love. We do not always see the hurt and struggles of others. Let us be aware, sensitive and kinder to each other.

Yes, I am a Stoner, a Rhinestoner

I help design, rhinestone and decorate the girls ballroom dresses/costumes and jewelry. It is fun to take an idea of a design, type of fabric, color possibilities, and stones to create a costume.

Most of your ballroom dancers use Swarovski Austrian Crystal rhinestones, they are the best for color and sparkle. Yes, each stone goes on one at a time. But the end result is amazing. I love doing it.

I paint the jewelry first the color we want them, then stone them

Mad Women - Christi

Here's the deal. Although this picture was taken years ago, this was me last night. They have been changing my medications and I am going through an internal detox. I wanted some candy, sugar or chocolate, I "needed" it so bad. I searched high and low, in drawers and closets, in every nook and cranny. I even looked in the bottom of my purse, you know the lone piece with stuff stuck all over it - Yes I was going to wash it off and eat it. But I found NOTHING. Maybe it was for the better, but it wasn't pretty.
